Parking something bigger than a car

Standard bays near this airport are marked for cars, and the note under the wiper is how people find that out.

Empty wide parking bay marked for oversized vehicles beside standard bays on an open lot
A bay sized for it. Two standard bays taken by one van is what the alternative looks like.

Three separate things make a vehicle oversized for airport parking, and people usually only think about the first.

Length and width

A full size van, a crew cab truck or a large SUV with a towbar overhangs a standard bay. Parking it across two is what produces a note under the wiper, and on a busy week it produces a wheel clamp on some lots.

There is a lot with bays sized for these. It is nine to twelve minutes from the terminal and about five fifty a day above the fenced lot.

Height

This is the one that catches people, and it catches them at the entrance to a covered deck with a queue behind.

Decks near this airport have height bars, typically around six feet six inches. A roof box, a bike carrier, a canoe or a ladder rack takes almost any vehicle over that limit even when the vehicle itself would fit.

If anything is on your roof, the deck is not available to you and you want an open lot. Say so when you ask and the desk will not quote you a deck.

Trailers

Small trailers can be accommodated on the oversized lot with notice, and only there. A trailer arriving unannounced generally cannot be parked at all, because the bay it needs is not one that exists spare on a busy morning.

What to send when you ask

The vehicle type, the approximate length if it is unusual, and anything mounted on or behind it. A sentence is enough: a long wheelbase van with a roof rack, or a pickup with a canopy and a towbar.

The desk quotes the lot that actually fits rather than the lowest priced one, and says why.

Electric vans

Both problems at once, since they need a charging bay and an oversized one. There are a small number and they go early. Ask a week ahead, and see the electric vehicle guide for the rest of it.

What this costs

Roughly five fifty a day above a standard bay on the fenced lot. Not a penalty, simply a wider bay on a lot where space is the product being sold.

Send what you drive on the booking page and the reply names the lot that takes it.

Have the dates already

Send them and the desk comes back with what is available and the daily rate. Asking is free and commits you to nothing. Nothing is held until you say so.
