Leaving an electric car at the airport

There is a block of bays with chargers on a covered level near this airport. It is genuinely small, and it is the one thing on this site that regularly comes back as unavailable.

Do you actually need to charge?

Worth asking before you pay for it.

A car sitting for a week loses a few percent to standby drain, not much more. If you leave at eighty percent and return to seventy four, and you live twenty minutes away, you do not need a charging bay. You need a normal one, and the covered deck is four dollars a day cheaper.

The cases where you do need one: coming back with a long drive still ahead of you, arriving at the airport nearly empty because the trip out used the charge, or a car that is genuinely poor at holding a state of charge.

What the charging rows cost

About sixteen dollars a day for the bay, on a covered level, plus energy billed by the operator at their rate. The bay charge is what you pay whether or not the car is actively charging, because the bay is what is scarce.

Booking them

A week ahead if you can. Three days if you must. Same week in December is very unlikely.

If they are full, the desk says they are full. It does not hold a normal bay and let you find out at the barrier, which is what an automated system would do.

Charging etiquette that actually matters here

Leave the charge port accessible rather than against a wall, and leave the car unlocked to the extent your model allows staff to move it if the operator's terms require that. Both are on the operator's own instructions, which come with your confirmation.

The honest alternative

Park on the covered deck in an ordinary bay, drive home, and charge at home overnight. For most people living inside the Triangle this is both cheaper and easier, and no charging bay is needed at all.
